First United Methodist Church of Moultrie, Georgia
Policy for Reopening for In Person Worship
and other activities
(Our Target Date for In Person Worship is June 21, 2020)
"Do No Harm!"
John Wesley, General Rule # 1 of The Methodist Societies
This policy is to be seen as a guide for those who desire to voluntarily return to in person worship or in person activities at FUMC Moultrie facilities. We do not desire to pressure anyone to come to church during this time of pandemic if they feel uncomfortable doing so. Our last desire is to be a source of harm to anyone. We have not been down this path before and are learning as we go. We provide these guidelines so you may know the risks, reduce the risk of infection, and in knowing this, you are agreeing to take these risks upon yourself.
If you are in an at risk group, we recommend you not attend worship in person but continue to worship via our online services which we will continue to broadcast. At risk persons are those over age 65, persons with diabetes, C.O.P.D., lung disease, asthma, heart trouble, and those who are substantially overweight.
If you have a fever, dry cough, runny nose, body aches, or do not feel well, for the sake of everyone else, please exclude yourself from in person worship. You could cause harm by passing along to someone else what you may have.
Hand sanitizer is mandatory for all persons. Please bring it with you, if possible, because we have a limited supply on hand. Use it generously.
Exterior doors will remain open or will be opened for you by a greeter. Directions for how to exit safely will be provided at the close of the service. At this time, we can only hold 100 people in the sanctuary. Please call the office ahead of time to reserve your seat. Overflow seating with Facebook Live broadcast will be located in the fellowship hall. We have a limit of 40 persons. Certain interior doors will remain open; please do not touch the door handles. There will be attendants wiping down handles after guests leave the restrooms.
The wearing of facial masks is recommended for all. This prevents you from infecting someone else. If you do not have a face mask, we will have a limited supply for you to use. Wearing latex or other gloves that protect you from infecting yourself is recommended but not mandatory.
Social distancing is highly recommended for all. We will have every other pew roped off. Stay at least 6 feet apart from others who are not in your household. Families who live under the same roof or are visiting with one another regularly are free to sit together.
Please do not shake hands or embrace one another. This is difficult for many of us,but it is important.
Books and hymnals have been removed from the sanctuary during this time as they cannot be properly sanitized. Please be prepared to bring your own Bible. Lyrics to hymns and songs will be provided.
Our worship services will continue to be broadcast on social media for those at home.
No offering plates will be passed around in the service, and Holy Communion will not be served until further notice. You may make arrangements with the church office to set up direct deposit, or you may drop your tithe in the plates located in the back of the sanctuary.
No nursery or children's church will be provided as children cannot be made to social distance and do not understand the risks associated with this virus. A children's moment in the service will be provided, but children need to remain with their families. Parents will need to accompany children to the restrooms.
The choir may start back practicing by using the sanctuary with proper social distancing, spreading members across the front of the sanctuary but not in the choir loft.
Sunday School classes may return to meeting in their rooms while practicing social distancing, using masks and hand sanitizer, and not touching door handles.
Community groups that use our facilities are welcome to start in person meetings with the use of hand sanitizer and social distancing. Those who lead these groups are responsible for sharing this policy with their members.
