Sermon notes for June 14, 2020:
*Gospel Lesson: Matthew 9:35-10:8
Sermon: "We are on A Mission from God"
The Blues Brothers Got it Right
I remember it well, the summer of 1979. I was the Youth Director at College Place UMC in Brunswick, GA for the summer. I had a group of 50 kids I got to know and love and we had an excellent 3 months together. One day I took two of the boys and we traveled to the local movie theater and there we saw it, an epic movie that has lasted in its entertainment value for years. John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd played the parts of two desperate cons, bent on saving the home where they grew up. Never has so much adventure and misadventure been experienced by two people, "On a mission from God."
When God gets into our mission we do great things. When we have a vision so clear that it motivates our every ounce of conviction, great things begin to happen. When we give of ourselves to the mission God gives us, we feel so full of gratitude and meaning, our lives take on a new flavor. This Sunday we will talk in worship about the mission to which God calls the church.

Sermon notes for Easter 2020:
Gospel Lesson: Matthew 28:1-10
Sermon: "He Is Risen!"
Easter Defines Us
Our task Easter Sunday is to celebrate that singular event that defines who we are as a people...The Resurrection. Nothing in the life of the church is more important than to celebrate and to remember that our Lord and Savior died on Friday and then rose on Sunday morning. Nothing is more bewildering or as baffling to a world that does not believe as the Resurrection.
The evil in this world and the suffering in this world; the injustices and the unfairness in this world; none of these are going to define who we are. What defines people of faith is Jesus was able to defeat the powers of sin and death.
This situation we are in right now with social distancing, due to the Corona 19 Virus and all that goes along with it, will not define our lives. Jesus dying on the cross and rising on Easter Sunday will define who we are. His victory is a victory over disease, illness, war, evil, suffering, poverty and injustice. When all things are over, the victory of Jesus over all of these things will be our salvation and our victory.
When we say on Easter Sunday morning; "Jesus Christ is Risen, He is Risen indeed;" we are celebrating the victory of Faith over sin and death. We are children of God. We are people of the Resurrection
